e.) Participation- You will be expected to use studio time productively and effectively, as well as work responsibly. You will receive a two quarterly participation grades; at the 5 week mark and at the end of the quarter. This grade will be determined by your behavior and participation during class. We will go over a complete list in class but here are some examples from the list; coming into class and being ready to begin, following instructions, working independently, and putting forth effort.
Each day you will receive a numerical grade of 0-4 based on your participation in studio activities.
0=zero class participation
1=25% class participation
2=50% class participation
3=75% class participation
4=100% class participation
At the middle and end of the quarter the daily scores will be averaged to create the class participation grades.
It is your responsibility to make arrangements for missed work and studio time. You may arrange
to come work during study halls, lunch, or after school. Artwork and projects may also be taken home if applicable.
GRADING
a.) The expectation in the Studio is quality work that meets all of the project guidelines and expectations. Each project will have its own rubric with project expectations with a point-based system of 0-100% (65% is passing). Reassessment of projects and assignments will be awarded when deemed appropriate by the teacher. The student must discuss with the teacher the work and how they will improve the quality of the work. In general, I use the following criteria when grading artwork:
1.) Creative ability- uses expressive qualities and has unique ideas
2.) Work habits- gives 100% effort, works independently, follows directions
3.) Attitude- willing to try new things, accepts criticism, doesn’t disturb others, cooperative
4.) Skill- uses materials correctly, improvement in the use of a material, fulfills the objectives of the project
The grades will be averaged for a Quarter Grade:
• Major Artwork/Project/Participation grade- 80%
• Homework/Critiques/Quiz/Photo Journals- 20%
