05/13/21 - Over the last few weeks, Mr. Edelman has been working with the Senior Class Officers and Advisor to plan for end of year events for our Senior Class. We have met with our seniors to review guidelines for these events and have solicited their feedback through surveys/feedback forms. On Thursday, May 13th, we met with the Senior Class (both in-person and online) to review our current plan. The following was discussed:
- Prom – The Senior Class is moving forward with their Senior Prom on Friday, June 11th at the Onteora Mountain House. At this time, this event will be for current twelfth grade students only. Students will need to commit to this event by purchasing a ticket by May 20. After May 20, the Officers/Advisor will assess the commitment and will explore the possibility of allowing students who purchased tickets the opportunity to bring a guest to the prom.
- Senior Scholarships & Awards – We have decided to not hold a formal in-person ceremony this year. Similar to last year, our faculty and staff will deliver lawn signs to our award recipients’ homes during the first week of June. We will post an online presentation on our website on June 9 at approximately 7 P.M. We will also notify students in advance as to which parts of the presentation apply to their scholarship(s)/award(s).
- Senior Luncheon – To celebrate the success of our Seniors, we will be holding a senior luncheon at some point during the first week of June. All students (in-person and full remote) will be invited to attend. More details will follow.
- Graduation – Based on student feedback, we will be holding our commencement ceremony this year in-person on Friday, June 25 at 6:00 P.M. At the present time, each student will be provided with two tickets for guests. We will continue to be flexible as the guidance for ceremonies from the state changes. It is our hope that we will be able to increase the number of guests.
As we get closer to the end of the year, we will send out more detailed information.

Dear Class of 2021,
Over the last few weeks, I have been working with your class officers and class advisor to review various options for holding several events/ceremonies, such as prom, the awarding of scholarships and awards, and the graduation ceremony. We are working hard to develop plans that are in compliance with the guidance from the New York State Health Department.
I would like to share our progress with you during an online meeting on Tuesday, April 27 at 7:00 P.M. You will receive a Zoom Webinar invitation through your school email account. You should receive the link by Monday. After the meeting, you will have the opportunity to vote on a few proposals and offer additional input for us to consider.
We have also created a new webpage for the Senior Class, which can be found at https://ohs.onteora.k12.ny.us/clubs/seniors. Please note that the site currently has information posted about ordering caps and gowns, as wells as other senior class apparel.
I hope to see everyone Tuesday evening. Thank you.
