NHS Winter Apparel Drive

Throughout November, the National Honor Society will be collecting donations of NEW socks and other cold weather items like hats, gloves and scarves. Students, faculty, and staff can drop off items in collection bins located in the Main Office and the Guidance/Counseling Office

After School Supervision Guidelines

The Onteora Middle and High School have enhanced the supervision of students who stay for after school extracurricular activities. Please select the headline to review our current guidelines.

Parent-Teacher Conferences - November 2 & 3

Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled on Tuesday, November 2 from 3:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. and from 6:00 P.M to 7:30 P.M. and on Wednesday, November 3 from 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Early Release - Countywide Evacuation Drill: November 4

On Thursday, November 4, 2021, the Onteora Central School District will be participating in a countywide Evacuation Drill. 

This means that on Thursday, November 4, 2021, the Onteora Middle and High School will be dismissing students at 2:20 P.M.

Winter Sports Information & Registration

Information is being provided to student-athletes and their parents about the winter sports season. Please select the headline above for update information, including:

  • Winter sports for High School (Junior Varsity and Varsity) will begin on Monday, November 15th- Registration through Family ID is now open.
  • Winter sports for Middle School (Modified) will begin on Monday, November 22nd – Registration through Family ID opens on October 22nd.



PSAT Information

We will administer the PSAT on Wednesday, October 13th. The PSAT will take place during school hours in the morning from roughly 8:00AM – 10:45AM. Registration for the PSAT will remain the same (see below), but the $18 cost will be covered by the district. The fee for the exam will be covered by the district.

High School Open House: September 30, 2021

On behalf of the faculty and staff of Onteora High School, I would like to invite you to our Virtual Open House on Thursday, September 30, from 6:00 to 8:30 P.M.  Parents will have the opportunity to meet their high school student's teachers in order to learn about course curriculum and teacher expectations. 

We have created an Open House webpage to facilitate the schedule and provide links to each teacher's Google Meet.

Spirit Week (9/20 - 9/24)

Attention, OHS students! Get ready for Spirit Week 2021! Show your Onteora Pride each day of the week leading up to our Homecoming events on Saturday, September 25. Monday (September 20) is Pajama Day, Tuesday (September 21) is Tie Dye Day, Wednesday (September 22) is Fandom Day, Thursday (September 23) is Decade Day, and Friday (September 24) is Class Color or Jersey Day. A full schedule of events will be posted on the Athletic Department’s website (https://www.onteora.k12.ny.us/athletics).

Change In Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures

To enhance the safety of our school community, we are amending our pick up and drop off procedures. Students who are being picked up at the end of the day / or dropped off in the morning at the Middle/High School should do so at the West end of the building - also known as the area by the tennis courts (going up toward Bennett School).   After dropping off or picking up students at the West end, please proceed out through the tennis court parking area, and around to Route 28.   

Transportation Schedules

Transportation information for the 2021-22 school year is now available on the student/parent portal (select the "More" tab). Please log in for the most up to date information. If you are unable to log in to the portal to retrieve transportation information, please contact your child's school.

School Pictures - September 14 & 15

Lifetouch will be at the Middle/High School on September 14 and 15 to take student portraits. High school students will receive information through their English classes and middle school students will receive information from their social studies teachers about the exact time and date for their photos.

2021-22 Student-Parent Handbook

This handbook is intended to serve as a summary of our rules, procedures, and expectations and it is not meant to be all-inclusive. If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss them with any faculty member, staff, or administrator.

Fall Athletic Parent/Player Meeting - August 18 at 7 P.M.

There will be a Fall Athletic Parent and Player Zoom meeting on Wednesday, August 18 at 7:00 P.M. to discuss the upcoming Fall season.  All high school students planning to participate in a Fall sport should attend this meeting along with their parent(s).  All Fall athletes must be medically cleared at the start of the season to participate in interscholastic athletics.  Tryout information and academic eligibility will be discussed as well, so please take this opportunity to join us!  I look forward to seeing everyone!

Onteora Earns Place on List of Best U.S. High Schools 2021

Onteora High School (OHS) has earned a spot on the U.S. News listing of the best U.S. High Schools. OHS is ranked 175th in New York State, and second in Ulster County.

Among the factors taken into account in Onteora’s ranking was the school’s Advanced Placement (AP) exam participation rate, which is 44 percent, as well as its graduation rate (88 percent). The U.S. News “scorecard” for Onteora also took note that mathematics proficiency among students stands at 90 percent, and reading proficiency at 91 percent.
