As of today, we have used all of our snow days. We have been monitoring this situation and our faculty is prepared to pivot to remote learning if we are unable to have in-person instruction due to inclement weather. 

The Ulster BOCES Career & Technical Center will be hosting a virtual Parent/Student Information Night on Thursday, February 25. There will be two sessions: one at 5 PM, and another at 6 PM. During this virtual event, students and parents will be able to visit up to two programs (one per session), meet with school counselors and instructors, and learn about the classrooms and work labs related to the students’ professional areas of interest. Revised on 02/17/21 - The Onteora High School has released the High Honor Roll, Honor Roll, and Merit Roll for the second quarter. 

Over the past few months, members of the Wind Ensemble have worked many hours on learning their parts for CRUSH. Once that was completed came the task of learning to play along with a rehearsal/click track while recording their performance.  What you are hearing is the culmination of all their hard work and dedication.  We hope you enjoy our first Virtual Band piece, CRUSH!

Congratulations to Archie Lewis-Harris and Maxwell Mielcarek who were selected to represent Onteora High School at the NYSSMA Conference All-State Music Festival held virtually from December 3rd through December 5th, 2020.  Their selection was based upon their past NYSSMA Solo Festival scores and previous All-State participation. Max Mielcarek was selected for the All-State Symphony Orchestra on String Bass. Archie was selected for the All-State Symphonic Band on Clarinet. They competed against several other music students across the state of New York, to be selected for this prestigious honor.

School pictures for hybrid-learning model students have been scheduled on their in-person learning days during the week of February 8. High school students will be notified by their English teachers and middle school students will be notified by their social studies teachers with the exact date that their photo will be taken.

During the months of January and February, Onteora High Schools National Honor Society is collecting non-perishable food items to support local food pantries. Look for donation boxes at Hannaford in West Hurley, the Boiceville Market, and at the Pine Hill Community Center.

This year has brought a lot of changes to the world and the Onteora Yearbook. However, this has given the Yearbook Staff a chance to completely revamp and bring some new sections to the yearbook.

The Onteora Yearbook is trying to capture the Class of 2021 growing up. Please submit high resolution photos to hsyearbook@student.onteora.k12.ny.us. Please remember to keep all submissions school appropriate and indicate in the email who is in the photo and when it was taken.

I know that everyone is anxious to plan regarding the potential return of our students to in person learning. Our original plan was to return on Tuesday of next week, following the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I shared with the Board of Education last night that we are going to stay in the remote learning environment until the beginning of the third quarter on February 1st.

The holiday season looks very different this year and may be causing some anxiety and sadness due to the pandemic. While providing space to hear your child’s disappointment, provide options to bring light to a hard situation. Here are some tips for you and your nuclear family to celebrate and keep your children positive.

School breakfast and lunch are available to families while the district is on full remote learning. If interested, please complete the online form  or call (845) 657-6383 x2181.

In order to exercise as much caution as possible, and be able to track the impact of the holiday on the community metrics, we will “pause” our hybrid and in-person instructional model and shift instruction to a full remote learning schedule after the upcoming Thanksgiving break. We will return our students to our buildings on Monday, December 14th.

To help our parents and families during these challenging times, Onteora is partnering with the Morningside Center to offer online “Social Emotional Workshops” that will provide opportunities to: share, listen, and deepen your relationship with other parents and guardians; develop different stress- and anxiety-reducing practices; and explore ways to support your children’s social, emotional, and academic development.

On Thursday, November 5, 2020, the Onteora Central School District will be participating in a countywide Evacuation Drill. 

This means that on Thursday, November 5, 2020, the Onteora Middle and High School will be dismissing students at 2:20 P.M.

Onteora National Honor Society is raising money for Helping Hands, our community outreach program that provides funds to local families during the holiday season.

All bulbs arrive for the holiday gift-giving season, but the deadline for the ordering is November 30th.

All funds raised will go the families in need in the Onteora Central School District.

Due to health and safety precautions the PSAT has been tentatively rescheduled for January 26^th. More information will be released when available.

This free webinar, scheduled for October 29 at 6:30 PM, will be hosted by Major League Baseball Certified Player Agent Mark Leinweaver. The session is designed for middle school/ high school student-athletes, parents, and coaches to discuss the college selection and athletic recruiting processes, which are taking place during a time when many sports seasons have been canceled due to the pandemic. Focusing on how “character matters,” the webinar will also discuss volunteering opportunities, the dangers of social media, and the importance of student-athletes being leaders when it comes to anti-bullying efforts. We hope you’ll join us!

Throughout October and November, the National Honor Society will be collecting donations of NEW socks and other cold weather items like hats, gloves and scarves for Family of Woodstock. Students, faculty, and staff can drop off items in collection bins located at the east and west end entrances of the high school. There is also a donation box located at the Boiceville Market for community members who wish to participate and make donations

In an effort to make re-entry as seamless and safe as possible, we will be phasing in our re-entry as follows:

• Grades K - 6: Thursday, October 1, 2020
• Grades 7 & 8: Monday, October 5, 2020
• Grades 9 - 12: Tuesday, October 13, 2020

This schedule will allow us to focus on supporting our elementary students as they return, followed closely by our Middle School students. Learning Model/Calendar
All BOCES CTE programs will begin with a fully remote online learning model on September 8 and gradually phase in to hybrid model. In the hybrid model, Onteora High School students will attend their CTE program in-person on Wednesdays from 9:30 A.M to 1:00 P.M., beginning September 30.

This handbook is intended to serve as a summary of our rules, procedures, and expectations and it is not meant to be all-inclusive. If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss them with any faculty member, staff, or administrator.

• Chromebooks may be picked up on the student’s designated day from 8 A.M. to 3 P.M. in the bus lane in front of the school. Please drive up to the tent that is set up and remain in your vehicle at all times. A member of our staff will assist you.
   
• Please note that due to the large volume of Chromebooks that need to be distributed, we are unable to take special requests that alter our distribution schedule. If you are unable to pick up your child’s device on their designated day, alternate arrangements will be made with you after August 31.
