We have a received notification from NYSED that the U.S. History Regents that was scheduled for June 1 has been cancelled and will not be administered this year. As a result, students enrolled in U.S. History Regents courses will take an in-class final exam on June 13th and 14th. Students enrolled in the Advanced Placement U.S. History course will complete a research project which will be used for the final exam.
In an effort to minimize the amount of testing administered to students on a given day, the Onteora High School is spreading out the final examination schedule throughout the month of June. This June, 12 Onteora seniors are graduating with a prestigious and well-deserved mark of distinction: New York State’s Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSOB).
“The seal recognizes advanced achievement in both English as well as another World Language, with students having to earn points in both languages through coursework and AP and Regent exams, as well as a final presentation on a year of research in a World Language other than English,” explained Valerie Stewart, Onteora’s World Languages Liaison.
The Onteora Central School District is proud to announce that Joey Driscoll is Valedictorian of the Class of 2022, Tahlula Potter is Salutatorian, and Shane Stackpole is this year’s recipient of the Principal’s Award.
“We are extremely proud of Joey, Tahlula, and Shane, who have excelled both inside and outside of the classroom, and have contributed so much to the Onteora community,” said Onteora High School Principal Lance Edelman. “We have no doubt they will continue to make us proud in the years to come.”
Mental health is essential to everyone’s overall health and wellbeing. While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their overall state of mind. As May is Mental Health Awareness Month, Onteora Middle/High School will be shedding light on these important topics.

In the event that it becomes necessary to shift to remote learning, students are to follow their regular class schedules from home. Students need to access the Google Classroom for each of their classes. Unless otherwise noted in the Google Classroom, students are expected to join Google Meets for remote instruction.

he Board of Education approved a calendar change regarding make-up snow days. Due to this change, all OCSD schools will be in session for in-person instruction on Monday, April 18th. However, school will not be in session on Monday, April 11th.
The Onteora Middle and High School are pleased to introduce a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts® The Anonymous Alerts anti-bullying and safety app reporting system helps combat bullying and other negative activity in schools by empowering students to speak up. Social and peer pressure are some of the hardest obstacles for students to overcome.

In early March, the hallways of the Middle School/High School were filled with artfully illustrated foreign proverbs, as students in foreign-language classes celebrated World Language Week (March 7-11) by participating in a schoolwide contest. Continuing a longstanding Onteora tradition, they created colorful posters that showcased their creativity as well as their language skills.
Kudos to the Onteora High School Wind Ensemble, which performed in the South Concourse of the Empire State Plaza on March 3 as part of Music In Our Schools Month. The performance was sponsored by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).

The Onteora High School Orchestra and Chamber Ensemble recently showcased their talents at Albany’s Empire State Plaza as part of Music In Our Schools Month. The March 1 performance was sponsored by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA).
The Spring season will begin on Monday, March 14. All student-athletes grades 9-12 who are interested in participating in sports MUST be register through Family ID and be cleared by our Medical Director. Effective Wednesday, January 12, 2022, as a District, we will be shifting to a 100% remote learning model for the remainder of the school week (January 12 - January 14).
During this time period, students are to follow their regular class schedule. The A/B schedule can be found on our website.
In an effort to reduce some stress and anxiety to our students, our faculty has agreed to cancel all formal mid-term examinations. This will allow us to recover some instructional time while also providing teachers and students the opportunity to catch up within the curriculum. Please note that half-year courses, including one semester college-level courses, will still have final exams (during class time).
NYSED has officially cancelled all January Regents exams. As a result, all previously designated Regents days (days in which students would only come to school if they were scheduled to take an exam) must be changed to instructional days. All students will be required to be in attendance on these days. Mid-term exams will still be administered. Additional information will be posted on our website when we return from winter break.

Ulster County Department of Health has delivered free Rapid Home Antigen Tests to be disseminated to all interested Onteora families. Onteora Middle and High School Students can pickup test kits outside the principal's office at dismissal on Tuesday 12/21/21 and Wednesday 12/22/21.
Parents will also be able to pick up testing kits at our Boiceville Administration Office from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm on 12/23/21.

The after school SAT Prep Class will meet on Thursdays from 2:45 - 4:15 starting on January 6th and running through May 5th. Attendance will be required for the full 90 minutes on each Thursday. Throughout November, the National Honor Society will be collecting donations of NEW socks and other cold weather items like hats, gloves and scarves. Students, faculty, and staff can drop off items in collection bins located in the Main Office and the Guidance/Counseling Office
The Onteora High School's Counseling Department will host two informational sessions (The College Admissions Process and The Financial Aid Process) for parents of juniors and seniors on Thursday, November 4 via Zoom.

We will administer the PSAT on Wednesday, October 13th. The PSAT will take place during school hours in the morning from roughly 8:00AM – 10:45AM. Registration for the PSAT will remain the same (see below), but the $18 cost will be covered by the district. The fee for the exam will be covered by the district.

Attention, OHS students! Get ready for Spirit Week 2021! Show your Onteora Pride each day of the week leading up to our Homecoming events on Saturday, September 25. Monday (September 20) is Pajama Day, Tuesday (September 21) is Tie Dye Day, Wednesday (September 22) is Fandom Day, Thursday (September 23) is Decade Day, and Friday (September 24) is Class Color or Jersey Day. To enhance the safety of our school community, we are amending our pick up and drop off procedures. Students who are being picked up at the end of the day / or dropped off in the morning at the Middle/High School should do so at the West end of the building - also known as the area by the tennis courts (going up toward Bennett School). After dropping off or picking up students at the West end, please proceed out through the tennis court parking area, and around to Route 28.

Onteora High School (OHS) has earned a spot on the U.S. News listing of the best U.S. High Schools. OHS is ranked 175th in New York State, and second in Ulster County.
Among the factors taken into account in Onteora’s ranking was the school’s Advanced Placement (AP) exam participation rate, which is 44 percent, as well as its graduation rate (88 percent). The U.S. News “scorecard” for Onteora also took note that mathematics proficiency among students stands at 90 percent, and reading proficiency at 91 percent.
