Onteora High Seniors Attend Consumer Smarts Summit

On June 3, members of the senior class headed to Belleayre Mountain for the annual Consumer Smarts Summit, an essential workshop of life skills they will take with them as they leave high school. This year, our students learned about basic car maintenance, including how to change a tire, with teacher Douglas Sanders; how to prepare their personal tax returns with four professionals from Ulster Savings Bank; and mental health and emotional life skills with Tara Sanders of Ulster County Trauma-Informed Care Collaborative and Twan Martin from Veteran’s Rights.

After lunch, the seniors met with Mark Pisano and his team from the Ulster County Probation Department for an eye-opening impaired driving prevention presentation.

Thank you to Belleayre Mountain for continuing to host this annual event, and to all of our presenters who volunteered their time to help our students transition to the next stage of their lives!
