Dear Onteora High School Families,

I hope that this letter finds everyone well. The school year continues to be very busy and exciting as students have readjusted to a more normalized school experience. It is nice to see so many students taking advantage of the various opportunities that the high school offers. I would like to provide you with the following information:

End of Quarter 1
The first marking period will officially end on Thursday, November 10 th. We expect to have report cards ready and available on the student/parent portal by the end of the day on Wednesday, November 16.

Advanced Placement (AP) Exam Registration
We have made a concerted effort to notify all AP students that they must register for AP Exams now. We are placing our order from College Board on Monday, November 14. As per College Board policy, any registrations submitted after this date will incur a $40 late fee. Any questions or concerns should be directed to Mr. Schimmelpfennig at

Social-Emotional Learning & Responsible Social Media/Electronics Use
We are fortunate to now have twenty high school staff members who have been trained by Morningside Center for Teacher Social Responsibility to facilitate social-emotional learning circles. Our ninth and tenth-grade students participated in their first circles last week during eighth period. We are planning for our next round of circles to occur on December 1 during seventh period.

We continue to make progress in delivering instruction to students on responsible social media and electronics. Our instructor, Mr. Harkin, has visited ninth and tenth-grade social studies classes during the months of September and October. Last week, he started visiting eleventh-grade classes. Please note that Mr. Harkin also provides instruction to middle school classes and continues to visit seventh and eighth-grade classes.

January Exams
Preliminary January Midterm and Regents Examination information can be found on our website. Students are expected to take all course midterms/finals on their designated dates.

Your order will be delivered to the school prior to graduation. If you plan on using a sibling's or former student's cap and gown from a previous year, let Mrs. Casey know.
